Summary:
According to China’s top family planning official, there is not a possibility that the one-child policy in China is going to be abandoned for at least another decade. The policy, started during the 1970’s, has helpfully prevented 400 million births in China. If the policy were abandoned now, there would be serious problems with social and economic development. But, the policy has led to “forced abortions, sterilizations and a dangerously imbalanced sex ratio” because of the traditional preference for boys. This policy is helping China reach it’s goal of zero population growth, but there is still a price to pay. I think the family planning officials are doing a good thing by keeping the policy because this will help with the world’s population problem.

Explanation: This population issue has to do with economics, culture and civics. The policy helps with China’s economic and social development, and culture is a part of it too, because of the traditional preference for boys, causing many abortions and an imbalanced sex ratio. Also, the issue has to do with civics and the Chinese citizens and their rights and the country’s development.
